Oil study of Cloud and light in September. Paintings of sky and cloud

September Cloud Study  8x10ins. Oil on Canvas                                                                         Sold

I worked extensively on this painting after its initial “birth” outdoors. I can’t describe any logical progression to the execution of the work because I probably used every technique (and then some..!) I’ve ever learned at various times while I was painting it.
It defeated me for a long time but I still felt it was worth continuing and I tried everything...even scraping it really hard to remove the paint down to the bare canvas in places - building up some parts with thick paint, glazing over areas to increase the depth of colour, flattening other bits.......This small painting drove me quite mad.
I really like it now and it seems to represent the idea that the more struggle a work has within its creation, the better the final result.
