Colour and Light Painting - dawn oil painting

Discovery Dawn 24”x30”,Oil on Gesso.                                                  Commissioned Work

This painting was commissioned by a client who, I discovered in conversation, admired the work of JMW Turner as much as I do. Turner has given me more insight into colour and light than any other artist and without trying to copy his work, I hope this painting acknowledges Turner and his vision.

It was the final work after painting two preliminary colour studies to map out the main areas of colour and light

Painted largely with a palette knife and thin transparent oil glazes which lie on top of a thick underpainting in “shades” of titanium white.
